Pre-Hospital Disaster Casualty Care

Course Length: 32 Hours

Description: This course focuses in the medical management of casualties in an urban setting (either domestic or combat).  The skills taught and the conditions under which the student must practice these skills are applicable to any trauma event whether in combat or a domestic setting.  The student will learn the principals of rapid treatment and evacuation of casualties in an unstable environment.  This course encompasses didactic sessions, skills labs, practicum and an exercise. 

Target Audience: Students will include military and civilian medical and non-medical personnel who may be part of a disaster response team or employed by public or private sector healthcare organizations or related emergency services.

Prerequisites: All soldiers must meet height and weight standards IAW AR 600-9.  The physical demand rating is moderate, as physical stress occurs during simulated labs and exercises. 

Required Equipment: Light work gloves. Uniform is seasonal BDE field uniform for soldiers.  Appropriate first responder attire for civilians.  Training is conducted outdoors, dress for inclement weather.
